At a glance
- A meridian is a channel through which Qi, vital energy, flows.
- TCM describes 12 main meridians, each linked to an organ.
- The face is a miniature map of them, ideal for an energetic treatment.
What is a meridian?
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, a meridian is an invisible channel through which Qi flows. This network, called Jing Luo, can be pictured as a transport map: main lines and branches that reach every tissue. Each meridian bears the name of the organ it is linked to, and all of them connect the surface of the body to its depths.
The 12 main meridians
- Lung and Large Intestine: breathing, skin, elimination;
- Stomach and Spleen-Pancreas: receiving and transforming food;
- Heart and Small Intestine: circulation, spirit, sorting and assimilation;
- Bladder and Kidney: elimination of fluids, ancestral energy, vitality;
- Pericardium and Triple Burner: protecting the Heart, regulating heat and fluids;
- Gallbladder and Liver: decision, harmonious flow of Qi, emotional balance.
The organ clock
According to TCM, energy follows a 24-hour cycle and each meridian has a two-hour peak of activity: Liver 1–3 am, Lung 3–5 am, Large Intestine 5–7 am, Stomach 7–9 am, Spleen 9–11 am, Heart 11 am–1 pm, Small Intestine 1–3 pm, Bladder 3–5 pm, Kidney 5–7 pm, Pericardium 7–9 pm, Triple Burner 9–11 pm and Gallbladder 11 pm–1 am.
What research says
To date, science does not recognise meridians as anatomical structures, and Qi belongs to a traditional framework. Teams are, however, exploring leads: the primo-vascular system, described by Bonghan Kim in 1962 and re-examined at Seoul National University, and the correspondence noted by Langevin and Yandow (2002) between acupuncture points and connective tissue planes. This work remains debated: Géomer draws on traditional knowledge without overselling certainties.
The 5-Terral energetic treatment
Each area of the face is linked to a meridian, which makes the face an ideal place for an energetic treatment. The 5 Terral are cosmetic clays, each applied to its own area; clay helps purify the skin, absorb excess sebum and refine skin texture. The result is cosmetic: a fresher complexion, clear skin and a real moment of relaxation.
- Cleanse the skin with a gentle cleanser.
- Using a brush, apply each Terral to its area.
- Leave on for 5 to 7 minutes; slight tingling is possible.
- Rinse with lukewarm water and continue with your usual care.
Key points
- According to TCM, the meridians connect the surface of the body to the organs.
- Research is exploring leads without fully validating them.
- The 5-Terral treatment follows the map of the face's meridians.
What Géomer recommends
For this treatment, Géomer recommends the 5 Terral and the Pinceau Terral, complemented by the Huiles Amplitude.
