Understanding oily hair according to TCM

Hair that becomes greasy quickly is not simply the sign of a "dirty" scalp — it is a sign that the sebaceous glands are overproducing. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, this imbalance is linked to the Wood Element — energy no. 1, which governs the Liver and the Gallbladder. In spring, these organs are particularly active — which shows as overproduction of sebum all over the body and the scalp.

The Energising Shampoo does more than clean sebum off the surface — its plant actives act on the sebaceous glands to stabilise their production. The scalp regains its natural balance with no rebound effect.

What the Energising Shampoo does

Helps regulate sebum production — the plant extracts (burdock, nettle, ivy, birch) and menthol help regulate sebaceous gland activity without suppressing it.

Limits scalp perspiration — camphor and menthol help regulate excess perspiration, which speeds up regreasing.

Kelp Seaweed + 7 Plant Extracts

Burdock · Nettle · Ivy · White birch · Ginkgo Biloba · Horsetail. A plant synergy that helps regulate the sebaceous glands, stimulates microcirculation in the scalp and contributes to hair balance. This synergy is associated in TCM with the Wood Element — Liver and Gallbladder.

Menthol

The refreshing active of the Energising Shampoo. Menthol provides the long-lasting feeling of freshness that characterises the shampoo and helps regulate scalp perspiration.

Camphor

A toning, regulating active that helps curb excess skin perspiration and stabilise the scalp environment. It is one of the actives that sets the Energising Shampoo apart from conventional shampoos for oily hair.

Expert advice

This shampoo is not used like a conventional shampoo — read the routine before first use.

Application routine:

Apply a hazelnut-sized amount directly to the dry scalp — not wet
Spread over the whole scalp with your fingertips
Leave on for 7 minutes
Wet, then work into a light lather
Rinse thoroughly — even if there is little lather

The small amount of lather is normal and intentional — do not compensate by using more shampoo. Excessive lather is harmful to fine hair.

Not recommended in very cold weather for very fine hair — the cooling effect can create static electricity.

Frequently asked questions

Why apply the shampoo to a dry scalp?

Water dilutes the actives before they have time to work on the scalp. When applied to a dry scalp, the plant extracts and essential oils penetrate the scalp directly during the 7-minute leave-in time — without being immediately diluted. That is the whole point of applying it to dry hair.

Why is there so little lather?

Because lather is produced by foaming agents — which also dry out and weigh down fine hair. Géomer has deliberately limited their concentration to preserve the balance of the scalp and avoid weighing down fine hair. Cleansing is effective even without abundant lather.

Can it be used all year round?

Yes — but with one nuance in winter. The Energising Shampoo is particularly suited to spring and summer (Wood Element season). In very cold weather, people with very fine hair may notice static electricity linked to the cooling effect of menthol and camphor. In that case, space out use or alternate with the Seaweed Shampoo.
