Dry, rough hair after a perm, curls that loosen or frizz, elastic hair that is hard to style: find out how to care for permed hair with the Traditional Chinese Medicine reading and the Géomer protocol, step by step.
At a glance
Who is it for
- Dry, rough hair in the days after the perm.
- Curls that drop or frizz instead of staying well defined.
Frequency
The first four steps go with every perm. Afterwards, wash your curls with pH Correcting Shampoo or pH Correcting Shampoo Bar, no more than twice a week, followed by Hair Balm to detangle.
Products in the protocol
A perm creates lasting curls or waves by chemically changing the structure of the hair. This transformation dries out the fibre, opens its scales and can irritate the scalp. Traditional Chinese Medicine links this chemical stress to the Fire Element; the Géomer routine works alongside your perm products to keep curls supple, soft and shiny.
Permed hair: how to recognise the signs
- Dry, rough hair in the days after the perm.
- Curls that drop or frizz instead of staying well defined.
- Stretchy hair that is hard to style with a blow-dry.
- A lingering product smell and a tingling scalp.
Why a regular conditioner is not enough
A perm changes the hair's natural acidity. For TCM, this excess of the Fire Element dries out and weakens the fibre; so it needs nourishing before winding, supporting during curling, soothing for the scalp at the final rinse, and bringing back to its natural pH to close the scales.
What makes the Géomer approach different
Steps that are added to your usual perm, at home or at your hairdresser's, without interfering with the curl: they help curls stay supple and shiny.
What Géomer recommends
1

Wash without changing acidity
Before the perm, wash your hair with G5 Shampoo or G5 Shampoo Bar: apply to the dry scalp, leave on for 2 minutes, wet, lather lightly and rinse. This shampoo does not change the hair's acidity.
2

Nourish before winding
Apply Hair Balm like a conditioner, then squeeze out the excess. It nourishes and coats the fibre without blocking the perm product, and helps the hair stay supple. Then wind the hair as usual.
3

Support the curl
After the curling time and a long rinse, spray Régénorsil over all the rollers to soak the hair and leave on for 2 minutes. It helps the perm hold and limits the hair's stretchiness. Then apply the neutraliser as usual.
4

Soothe at the final rinse
After neutralising, unwinding and the final rinse, pour a bowl of lukewarm water containing 10 drops of Amplitude Oil N°4 over the hair. This refreshes and soothes the scalp and reduces the smell of the perm products.
5

Close the scales
For the following washes, use pH Correcting Shampoo or pH Correcting Shampoo Bar and leave on for 2 minutes before rinsing: its acidity stabilises the hair's pH, closes the scales and keeps curls smooth and shiny.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
During pregnancy or breastfeeding, do not use G5 Shampoo, G5 Shampoo Bar, Régénorsil or Amplitude Oil N°4. Hair Balm and pH Correcting Shampoo do not carry this contraindication. For the perm itself, ask your doctor's advice.

Precautions
G5 Shampoo, G5 Shampoo Bar, Régénorsil and Amplitude Oil N°4 are not used during pregnancy or breastfeeding. G5 Shampoo and G5 Shampoo Bar contain lemon essential oil: avoid sun exposure after application. Amplitude Oil N°4 is not recommended for children, elderly people or people with chronic conditions; never apply it to mucous membranes or near the eyes. If you are losing hair, wait until the hair loss has stabilised before using Régénorsil. Hair Balm contains wheat proteins: do not use it if you are allergic to wheat or gluten. Do a skin test if you are prone to allergies.
This cosmetic protocol is used alongside the follow-up provided by your doctor or dermatologist.
