Liver, gallbladder and excess sebum — what TCM says
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, oily skin reflects an imbalance of the Wood Element — the Element of Spring, which governs the liver and the gallbladder. When these organs are in excess of energy, the skin reacts by overproducing sebum. A hormonal imbalance — common at puberty — can amplify this phenomenon and encourage the appearance of blemishes, blackheads and excessive shine. The Géomer protocol acts simultaneously on the skin and on the Wood Element: the essential oils of sage, rosemary, Scots pine, juniper berries, cypress and Mitcham peppermint are selected for their action on the liver and gallbladder meridians.

Oily skin: how to recognise the signs
- Shine on the forehead, nose and chin (T-zone).
- Enlarged pores and blackheads.
- Make-up that does not last.
- Skin that feels thick, sometimes with blemishes.
Why a drying cleanser is not enough
Stripping the skin of oil several times a day feels clean, but the skin often responds by producing even more sebum. In TCM, shine is the visible sign of an overloaded Wood Element, linked to the liver and gallbladder. The aim is therefore to absorb the excess gently while letting the skin find its own rhythm again. That is the role of the tapering Terral Vert routine, supported by Amplitude N°1.
What makes the Géomer approach different
A tapering routine that gradually lets the skin take over again, with essential oils chosen for the Wood Element rather than simple surface stripping.
Do not confuse oily skin with excessive perspiration. Skin that becomes oily within 3 to 4 days is a matter of excess sebum — that is the Wood Element. Skin that becomes oily in less than 24 hours is a matter of perspiration — the protocol is different. If in doubt, get your free personalised assessment.
