Phenoxyethanol may be present in tiny proportions in some of our products. This remains harmless for our organism.
Phenoxyethanol: a risky ingredient?
Why is phenoxyethanol found in the composition of certain products?
What is it and why is it used?
- Phenoxyethanol is used as a preservative in certain raw materials that we buy to make our products.
- It comes from a natural extract guaranteed organic and paraben-free, found at a level of 1% in certain products from one of our raw material suppliers.
- You may have read some information debating its potential toxicity, particularly in children under 3. To address these concerns, a safety assessment of this preservative was carried out at European level. On 16 March 2016, the experts of the European Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety concluded that complying with the regulations limiting the preservative to 1% of the finished product was safe for our health, for all consumers whatever their age.
- To go further, although the French National Agency for the Safety of Medicines and Health Products prefers to avoid phenoxyethanol for children under 3, it recommends a concentration below 0.4% in cosmetic products.
- We use these raw materials (containing 1% phenoxyethanol) at a level of 1% to 3% in certain products. The final concentration of phenoxyethanol in these Géomer care products is therefore between 0.001% and 0.003%. This proportion, being far below the 1% limit set by European regulations and also the 0.4% recommended by the ANSM, allows our products to be used without risk.
