Sunburn

What Géomer recommends to soothe the skin after sun exposure

Laboratoire Géomer

Redness, a feeling of heat, sensitive or even painful skin, then peeling: here is how to recognise sunburn, why it sometimes happens despite sunscreen and the Géomer protocol to soothe the skin after sun exposure.

At a glance

Who is it for

  • Redness and a feeling of heat after sun exposure.
  • Sensitive skin, even painful to the touch.

Products in the protocol

The sun is back, and with it the same surprise every year: you apply a high-SPF sunscreen… and your skin turns red anyway. Here is why your sunscreen is not enough, how to soothe sunburn and above all how to prepare your skin for a natural tan, without turning lobster-red at every exposure.

Sunburn: how to recognise the signs

  • Redness and a feeling of heat after sun exposure.
  • Sensitive skin, even painful to the touch.
  • Tightness, then peeling in the following days.
  • If there are blisters, fever or faintness, see a doctor.

Why soothing afterwards is not enough

Cooling skin that has already overheated brings relief, but does not prepare it for the next exposures. In TCM, summer is the season of the Fire Element, linked to the heart and circulation: heat rises and the skin must be able to release it. Drinking regularly, building up sun exposure gradually and helping the skin drain this heat are all part of the same habit. That is why Terral Rouge is used both before and after sun exposure.

Terral Rouge

What makes the Géomer approach different

Terral Rouge, designed for the Fire Element, is used both to prepare the skin and to soothe it, before Émulsion Phyto Douce Collagen takes over to moisturise it.

Sunburn despite sunscreen: how is that possible?

It is summer : we go out in the sun with a high-SPF sunscreen, and yet the skin turns red. Most often, two essential reflexes have been forgotten: staying properly hydrated by drinking water, and giving the skin time to produce its protective melanin.

The sun remains indispensable: it is what enables the synthesis of vitamin D, essential for the strength of our bones. The aim is therefore not to avoid it, but to expose ourselves to it intelligently.

Why a total sunblock cream is not enough

Effect of UVA and UVB on the skin — Laboratoire Géomer

A sunscreen, even a total sunblock, stops UVA and UVB. But it does not stop heat. Yet our body is homeothermic: whatever happens, it strives to keep its temperature at around 37 °C. Under intense sun, the skin can get much hotter if it cannot get rid of this heat.

The natural cooling mechanism is perspiration, fuelled by good lymph circulation and sufficient hydration of the tissues. If the skin lacks water and drains poorly, it can no longer cool down: it overheats and becomes inflamed, even when protected from UV. That is sunburn despite the cream.

Tanning intelligently: finding the right balance

The skin is designed to protect itself from the sun, provided it is given the time to do so. Our modern lifestyle, mostly indoors, catches it off guard as soon as the first fine days arrive. Three simple steps restore the balance:

  • Choose suitable protection. The fairer the skin and the more it is "unaccustomed" to the sun, the higher the SPF should be during the first exposures.
  • Hydrate the body from the inside. Drink water regularly — not sodas, chilled wine or iced juices, which quench thirst without really hydrating the tissues. The right method? "Drink like a tennis player", in small regular sips. Read the dedicated article >>
  • Help the skin produce its melanin. It is this protective pigment that prepares a real, natural and lasting tan.

The Géomer reflex: Terral Rouge to soothe and prepare the skin

For the skin to produce its melanin, its surface tissues must function well: a good supply of blood to the capillaries of the dermis and efficient elimination of lymph. This is precisely the role of Terral Rouge, our red clay mask enriched with Silicium Organique, associated in the energy approach with the Fire Element of summer.

Its high mineral concentration creates a cutaneous lymphatic micro-drainage wherever it is applied: the skin regains its freshness, the heat subsides and the surface tissues start to function better again.

How to apply it

  • After exposure (especially the first one, when the skin got too hot), apply a layer of about 1 mm of Terral Rouge to the affected areas.
  • Leave on for 20 to 30 minutes. During this time, a feeling of freshness sets in and the area feels soothed.
  • Rinse with water, pat dry gently.
  • Finish with hydration and remineralisation usingÉmulsion Phyto Douce Collagen.

This emulsion, enriched with monomethylsilanetriol (organic silicon), hydrates without leaving a greasy film and helps preserve the skin's firmness and elasticity — valuable after sun exposure.

A tan prepared in a few days

One to two applications of Terral Rouge a day on skin unaccustomed to the sun, as soon as the fine days arrive, help it activate its own protection. The skin, better prepared, then copes much more calmly with subsequent exposures thanks to its natural tan. Nevertheless, always remember to drink enough throughout the day: this is essential.

Sunburn has set in: what should you do?

If the skin has been overexposed and has heated up:

  • Carry out two consecutive applications of Terral Rouge, leaving each on for 30 minutes.
  • Repeat one application the following day.

These applications bring a feeling of freshness and soothe discomfort. Beyond this feeling of freshness, Terral Rouge helps the overheated skin regain its comfort and its normal appearance. To boost the freshness, a few drops ofAmplitude Oil N°2 (Fire element, refreshing) can be added to your summer care.

Organic silicon, an ally of sun-exposed skin

Repeated sun exposure weakens the skin, which loses some of its firmness and elasticity: this is photoageing.

This is the whole point of the Géomer approach after the sun: organic silicon applied locally, through Émulsion Phyto Douce Collagen and Terral Rouge. To find out more about this ingredient, read our articles Our Science.

In summary

  • A sunscreen stops UV, but not heat: hydration and perspiration remain essential.
  • Drink water regularly, in small sips.
  • Terral Rouge soothes overheating and helps the skin prepare its melanin.
  • Émulsion Phyto Douce Collagen, with organic silicon, hydrates the skin after sun exposure.
  • Preparing your skin is better than putting up with it: a few applications are enough to approach summer more calmly.

Tan well and intelligently: you only have one skin, take care of it.

Precautions: products not recommended for pregnant and breastfeeding women (contain essential oils). For external use. These cosmetics do not replace medical treatment; in the event of a severe burn or blisters, consult a healthcare professional.
