You are looking for an effective organic silicon.
You read the labels.
You compare prices.
And yet, one essential question remains without a clear answer: do all these products really contain organic silicon – and in a form that your body can use?
The answer is no.
And this article will explain why, with scientific arguments that no one in this sector takes the time to give you.
1. Silicon: a vital trace element that your body cannot make
Silicon is the second most abundant element in the Earth's crust, after oxygen. Yet in your body it is precious and irreplaceable. At birth, your body contains on average 7 grams of silicon – twice as much as iron. This figure alone illustrates how fundamental this trace element is.

Silicon plays a structural role in virtually all connective tissues: bones, cartilage, tendons, ligaments, vascular walls, skin, hair, nails. It is essential for the synthesis of collagen, the protein that maintains the strength and elasticity of your tissues. Without silicon, no collagen. Without collagen, accelerated ageing, weakened joints, sagging skin.
The problem? From the age of 25, your silicon reserve declines without interruption. By 55, only about 4 grams remain. And the modern diet – processed, depleted of minerals – no longer makes up for these losses. Hence the value of supplementation. But not just any supplementation.
2. Not all silicons are equivalent: the question of chemical form
This is where the confusion begins – and where labels become misleading. The term “organic silicon” is used to describe very different chemical realities. Your body, however, makes no concessions: it can only assimilate silicon in certain specific forms.
The 4 main forms on the market
Form 1 – Silicon extracted from plants (horsetail, nettle, bamboo)
This is the most widespread form in pharmacies and parapharmacies. It is extracted from plants rich in silica such as field horsetail, nettle or bamboo. It is presented as “natural” and “of organic origin”.
The reality: silicon extracted from plants is present as insoluble silica or silicic acid with very low bioavailability. Studies published in scientific journals indicate an intestinal absorption of 10 to 15% at most for these plant forms. Out of 100 mg ingested, less than 15 mg actually reach your bloodstream. The rest is eliminated without effect.
Form 2 – Orthosilicic acid (OSA)
Orthosilicic acid is a form of silicon that is more soluble than plant silica. Some manufacturers present it as “highly bioavailable” and stabilise it with excipients such as maltodextrin or acacia gum to make it commercially viable.
Its bioavailability is indeed higher than that of plant forms. But OSA is an unstable molecule in aqueous solution – it tends to polymerise spontaneously, forming silica chains that are less easily assimilated. This is why manufacturers have to encapsulate it or stabilise it with additives. The result: the actual concentration of active silicon is often diluted by these excipients.
Form 3 – Diluted or blended monomethylsilanetriol (MMST)
Monomethylsilanetriol (MMST) is the synthetic form of organic silicon, authorised as a food supplement by the European Commission (decision 2016/1344). It is the molecule invented in 1957 by Norbert Duffaut, a chemist at the University of Bordeaux, and the only one with proven bioavailability exceeding 60%.
But beware: many products on the market contain MMST blended with other forms (nettle silicic acid, OSA, plant extracts) to cut manufacturing costs. The concentration of pure MMST is then very low, drowned in a less effective mixture.
Form 4 – Pure MMST at maximum stable concentration
This is the most effective and the rarest form. A single active ingredient: pure Monomethylsilanetriol, undiluted, unblended, with no additive masking a low concentration. And this is where a chemical parameter comes in that nobody ever explains to you.
3. The physical limit nobody mentions: why the maximum concentration is 1,200 mg/L
This point is crucial. And it explains why some labels advertising “very high” MMST concentrations deserve to be viewed with scepticism.
Monomethylsilanetriol is an unstable molecule in concentrated aqueous solution. Beyond a certain concentration, it undergoes spontaneous polymerisation: the MMST molecules bind to one another to form silica chains – in other words, it turns back into inactive sand suspended in water.
The maximum stable concentration of MMST in a drinkable solution is 1,200 mg per litre. This is the physico-chemical limit beyond which molecular stability is no longer guaranteed. A product advertising 2,400, 4,000 or 5,000 mg/L of MMST in a ready-to-drink liquid solution cannot contain stable MMST at that concentration. Either it is diluted before delivery, or the advertised concentration does not correspond to active MMST.
In other words: a product advertising an MMST concentration above 1,200 mg/L in a ready-to-use drinkable solution necessarily contains precipitated, inactive MMST. The excess fraction has polymerised into insoluble silica – chemically identical to sand – which passes through your body without being absorbed. You pay for an advertised concentration that does not exist in active form in your bottle.
This phenomenon is visible to the naked eye: persistent cloudiness or a slight deposit at the bottom of the bottle of a liquid organic silicon is precisely the sign that precipitated silica is present. A stable MMST at 1,200 mg/L appears as a perfectly clear, homogeneous solution. That is exactly what you see in our bottles.
The Silicium Organique Forté from Laboratoire Géomer is formulated at exactly this maximum stable limit: 1,200 mg/L of pure MMST. It is the optimal concentration – no less (that would be less effective), no more (that would be technically impossible to stabilise). Every milligram stated is active MMST, in a clear, homogeneous solution.
4. How to read an organic silicon label: the 5 questions to ask
Question 1 – What is the chemical form of the silicon?
Look in the INCI list for Monomethylsilanetriol (or Monométhylsilanétriol). If you read “silicic acid”, “plant silica”, “nettle extract”, “orthosilicic acid” – the active form is not pure MMST. Absorption will be considerably reduced.
Question 2 – Are there stabilising additives that dilute the formula?
Ingredients such as xylitol, phosphoric acid, maltodextrin, acacia gum, added flavourings, zinc gluconate, copper gluconate, grapefruit extracts... are signs of a complex formula that blends several silicon sources or that makes up for a low MMST concentration with other actives.
A pure MMST organic silicon has a short INCI formula: Aqua, Monomethylsilanetriol, Potassium Sorbate. That is all. A simple formula is a guarantee of purity.
Question 3 – Is the MMST concentration clearly stated?
Be wary of labels that only state the amount of “elemental silicon” per dose, without mentioning the total MMST concentration per litre. It is often a way of masking a low overall concentration. Demand to know: how many mg of Monomethylsilanetriol per litre of solution?
Question 4 – Is the bioavailability documented?
A plant-derived silicon absorbed at 10-15% is not comparable to an MMST absorbed at 60-80%. Yet both can display the same quantity of “silicon” on the label. The real difference in effectiveness can be as much as 1 to 8.
Question 5 – Does the product comply with European decision 2016/1344?
Since 4 August 2016, the European Commission has authorised Monomethylsilanetriol as a food supplement (decision 2016/1344). Only products containing this specific molecule benefit from this official authorisation. If a product relies only on plant extracts or unstabilised orthosilicic acid, it operates within a different regulatory framework.
5. What science says: clinical studies on MMST
Monomethylsilanetriol is the only form of organic silicon to have been the subject of documented clinical studies in humans.
Study 1 – Doctoral thesis in Pharmacy, University of Nancy (1995)
The thesis by Zahra Zaidi, “Le Silicium en Biologie Humaine, Usages Thérapeutiques et Cosmétologiques des Silanols”, defended on 26 September 1995 under the chairmanship of Professor J.A. Martin (Faculty of Pharmaceutical and Biological Sciences of Nancy), documents a clinical study of 29 people experiencing hair loss using applications of Monomethylsilanetriol:
- 87% of cases: hair loss observed to stop
- 53% of cases: regrowth of mature hair noted
A complementary experiment on guinea pigs showed a 68.33% increase in growth after daily application of Monomethylsilanetriol versus a control group, over a period of one month.
The thesis also documents the mechanism of action: silicon restructures the vascular walls at the level of the hair follicle, improving its nutrition, stimulating the atrophied bulb and normalising the level of seborrhoea.
Study 2 – Calvichoc trichograms, SYNTHESA / CODIPHARM Laboratories
Carried out by Laboratoires SYNTHESA (ZI de Buch, 33540 La Test de Buch) on behalf of Laboratoires CODIPHARM, under the responsibility of M. Voisin Philippe, Pharmacist, Analytical Expert to the Ministry of Health:
- Protocol: 46 people (29 men, 17 women, aged 24 to 61), marked hormone-related hair loss, telogen follicle rate ≥ 35%
- Duration: 4 to 6 months of Monomethylsilanetriol application
- Results: the anagen/telogen ratio improved in almost all cases, rising on average from 1.5 to more than 4 after the application period
- Hair-loss-reducing effect clearly observed in the majority of subjects
- Regrowth of hair and down noted in the majority of cases
Study 3 – Jugdaohsingh et al., Nutrition & Metabolism (2013)
Clinical study published in the international journal Nutrition & Metabolism (Nutr Metab (Lond) 10, 37 — DOI: 10.1186/1743-7075-10-37), conducted by the MRC Human Nutrition Research team in Cambridge (University of Cambridge, United Kingdom):
- Protocol: randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled study (scientific gold standard)
- 22 healthy adult women supplemented with MMST at the maximum recommended dose (10.5 mg Si/day) for 4 weeks
- Main result: MMST is absorbed, significantly increases silicon levels in the serum, and is metabolised into orthosilicic acid in vivo
- Authors’ conclusion: “Oral MMST is safe, absorbed and metabolised sufficiently to raise fasting serum silicon levels, comparable to other well-absorbed forms of silicon (orthosilicic acid).”
Note: this study involved a group of 22 participants. The authors themselves note in their complementary publication that “any effort to concentrate orthosilicic acid leads to self-association, polymerisation and nano-silica formation” — scientifically validating the precipitation phenomenon we describe for over-concentrated silicon products.
The European Commission finally authorised MMST as a food supplement in 2016 (decision 2016/1344), settling the regulatory debate in favour of this molecule.
Study 4 – Allain et al., Thérapie (1983)
The digestive absorption of Monomethylsilanetriol was measured after a single administration in humans: the molecule is detectable in the bloodstream within 90 minutes of ingestion, confirming its very high intestinal bioavailability (study published in the journal Thérapie, 1983, 38(2), pp. 171-174).
6. The ARK Quantique Process®: beyond chemistry
At Laboratoire Géomer, we do not simply make a chemically pure silicon. We apply our exclusive method to every production: the ARK Quantique Process®.
This manufacturing process integrates the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the 5 Elements into production. It does not alter the chemical composition of the product — it acts on the energetic information carried by the solution. This is a dimension that chemistry alone does not measure, but that our customers feel in their results.
Silicon is linked to the Metal Element in TCM, which governs the Lungs and the Large Intestine, but whose energy radiates towards all the supporting tissues of the body: bones, cartilage, skin, hair. Making a silicon in awareness of this correspondence means making a product that resonates with the energy of the whole organism.
7. Silicium Organique Forté and Vitalis: two formulas for two needs
The Silicium Organique Forté
This is the pure, original formula, the closest to Norbert Duffaut’s 1957 formula. Just three ingredients: Aqua, Monomethylsilanetriol, Potassium Sorbate. No additive, no blend, no dilution. Maximum stable concentration: 1,200 mg/L of pure MMST. Bioavailability: approximately 80%.
The Forté is the ideal choice for:
- The comfort of joints, muscles and tendons
- Bone strength
- Skin and wrinkles (internally and as a topical application)
- Hair loss and stimulating regrowth

9. Practical advice: how to use MMST organic silicon
The optimal dosage
To obtain measurable results, the dosage and the length of the course are as important as the quality of the product:
- Starter phase (30 days): 3 x 25 ml per day, preferably on an empty stomach in the morning
- Maintenance phase: 1 x 25 ml per day, all year round
- Intensive course (significant joint pain): 3 x 25 ml per day for 1 to 3 months
The first observations
The first effects are generally felt between 10 and 30 days of regular use, depending on the person and the desired outcome. Collagen renews itself over cycles of 3 to 6 months — a course sustained over time gives lasting results, whereas a short course only starts the process.
Synergistic combinations
Organic silicon combines naturally with other Géomer care products for an amplified action:
- With the Tenseur Minéral (topical application) for wrinkles and skin elasticity
- With theOligo F3 for hair loss
- With the Gel de Silicium Organique applied directly to the skin over painful joint areas (contains camphor: do not use during pregnancy or breastfeeding)
10. Frequently asked questions about organic silicon
What is the difference between organic silicon and mineral silicon?
Mineral silicon (sand, quartz, granite) is insoluble and cannot be assimilated by the body. Organic silicon — and more precisely Monomethylsilanetriol — is a synthetic form in which the silicon is bound to a carbon atom, making it soluble and bioavailable to the extent of 60 to 80%. This is the form your body can use directly.
Is organic silicon safe?
Monomethylsilanetriol is authorised by the European Commission (decision 2016/1344) and has no known toxicity at the recommended doses. Any excess is naturally eliminated via the urinary tract. No side effects have been documented in the available clinical studies. If you are undergoing medical treatment or are pregnant, consult your doctor.
Can organic silicon be taken continuously?
Yes. Continuous daily intake is even recommended to maintain an optimal level of silicon in the body. The body stores silicon but constantly uses it for the regeneration of connective tissues. A maintenance intake of 25 ml per day makes up for the natural losses linked to ageing.
Why shouldn’t organic silicon be put in a glass container?
MMST reacts with the silica present in glass: it binds to the walls and becomes concentrated or degrades. It must be stored in a food-grade plastic container. You can, however, drink it from a glass — the contact is too brief to cause a significant reaction.
What is the difference between the Forté and the Vitalis?
The Silicium Organique Forté is the pure MMST formula, the closest to Norbert Duffaut’s 1957 original. The Vitalis is an exclusive Géomer innovation: the Forté enriched with French chestnut ellagitannins, which add powerful antioxidant protection, intestinal support and hair protection against UV rays. The Vitalis is recommended for people with a sensitive digestive system or who want enhanced anti-ageing action.
Can organic silicon help against aluminium in the brain?
The work of Professor Christopher Exley (Keele University, United Kingdom) and the Rondeau/INSERM Bordeaux team has documented silicon’s ability to bind to aluminium in the body and to promote its elimination in urine. A study of the PAQUID cohort (1,925 subjects, 15 years of follow-up) observed that people who regularly consumed silica-rich water had a reduced risk of cognitive decline. These results are scientifically documented, without our being able to make a therapeutic claim from them for our cosmetic product.
❓ Organic silicon and kidney stones: a question I get often
It is a legitimate question — and it deserves a clear answer, especially if you have already experienced renal colic.
The short answer: no, MMST organic silicon does not promote the formation of kidney stones. But to understand why, you need to distinguish between two forms of silicon that have absolutely nothing to do with each other.
Two radically different forms of silicon
Mineral silica (SiO₂ — silicon dioxide) is insoluble and cannot be assimilated by the body. It is this form which, at very high doses ingested via grass, has been associated with siliceous stones in certain ruminants. This is not what you consume.
MMST organic silicon (methylsilanetriol) is the opposite: water-soluble, bioavailable, and above all cleanly eliminated via the urinary tract. It is precisely its solubility in water — which is the source of all its biological strength — that prevents it from crystallising or depositing. It passes through, it works, it is eliminated.
To date, no serious study has documented the formation of kidney stones linked to MMST organic silicon supplementation in humans. The rare siliceous stones described in the medical literature concern exclusively herbivorous animals in conditions that have nothing to do with our formulations.
The right approach for stone-prone people
For anyone prone to kidney stones — whatever supplementation is being considered — the golden rule remains plenty of hydration: at least 1.5 to 2 litres of water per day. Good hydration helps the elimination of everything the kidneys filter, silicon included.
And if you are under medical supervision for recurrent kidney stones, the opinion of your nephrologist naturally takes priority — only they know your specific situation.
Conclusion: the real criterion of a good organic silicon
Having read this article, you now have the tools to assess any organic silicon on the market. The deciding criterion is not the price, nor the brand’s reputation, nor the marketing promises. It is the chemical form and the concentration of active MMST that your body can really use.
A silicon based on horsetail or nettle, assimilated at 10-15%, cannot produce the same results as a pure MMST at 1,200 mg/L absorbed at 80%. A product that mixes MMST and orthosilicic acid to show a higher apparent concentration is not worth a pure, transparent, documented formula.
Laboratoire Géomer has been making a pure MMST Organic Silicon at the maximum physically stable concentration since 2021, following Norbert Duffaut’s original formula, in France, using the ARK Quantique Process®. Our customers who tried other silicon products before coming to us tell us plainly: they only felt the difference when they took pure MMST at the right concentration.
This is the difference we offer you.
